Arthur F. Lee, MD
Board-Certified Doctor of Orthopedics
At the young age of 7, Arthur Lee announced to his mother that he was going to be a doctor someday. Turns out, the notion was more than just a youngster’s fantasy.
Dr. Lee attended the University of Dayton for his undergraduate education, graduating summa cum laude. He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Lee completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Cincinnati in 1987, and has been practicing in Cincinnati since then.
Dr. Lee, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, treats all types of orthopedic patients. He is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of many areas of the musculoskeletal system including the neck, mid-back, lower back, shoulders, hips, arms and legs. He has over 30 years of experience treating fractures, tendonitis, arthritis, overuse problems, sports injuries, muscular strains, ligament sprains, osteoporosis and disc disease.
It is Dr. Lee’s philosophy that surgery should be the last resort, not the first course of action. Most of these conditions are treated with medications, physical therapy, braces, orthotics and patient education. All of the treatments mentioned, as well as ultrasound-guided injection therapy, are available “in house” at the Eastgate or Anderson locations.
If surgery is necessary, Dr. Lee performs state-of-the-art surgery including minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, hip resurfacing arthroplasty, computer-assisted total knee replacement, percutaneous fracture fixation surgery, arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, major ligament and muscle reconstruction, as well as a host of other orthopedic procedures.
Dr. Lee operates primarily at Wellington Specialty Surgery Center, The Christ Hospital and Mercy Hospital Anderson. All of these facilities have the latest in technological advances to allow Dr. Lee to perform surgery without compromise. Dr. Lee’s surgical team includes his personal physician’s assistant as well as his personal surgical assistant. This continuity further ensures consistent, efficient and reliable surgical results.
Dr. Lee is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the National Board of Medical Examiners, the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine and the Ohio State Medical Association.
Dr. Lee is an avid equestrian, and pursues skiing and sporting clay shooting in his spare time. Dr. Lee enjoys spending time with his three sons – the eldest of whom is a successful chemical engineer; the second and third are medical doctors. .
Expert Medical Witness Service
For more than 30 years, Dr. Arthur Lee has acted in the capacity of an expert medical witness in cases involving litigation, including lawsuits regarding personal injury, workers’ compensation and medical malpractice. Independent medical exams (IMEs) are performed at the office of Wellington Orthopaedics located in Anderson Township. Dr. Lee also performs reviews of medical records without an associated IME, if needed.
He is trained in the utilization of both the Fifth and Sixth Editions of the American Medical Association Guidelines to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment for accurate impairment assessment.
The format for independent medical examinations typically involves two separate reports. The first report outlines the examination of the claimant with respect to the information obtained exclusively from the exam visit itself (history, physical exam and x-rays). Dr. Lee prefers to enter into the visit with a “blank slate” to avoid any potential bias from letters or medical records, so review of this information is done after the evaluation itself.
The second report outlines in detail the medical records reviewed and correlates this information with the IME findings. Ultimately, summary statements are made taking into consideration all the data from the IME and the records review.
The following is a testimonial from an attorney on a case in which Dr. Lee provided expert medical testimony: “I thought your testimony was outstanding both as to its substance, as well as the way you handled what I thought was an extremely offensive cross-examination.”
